Reasons to Renovate Your Pool in the Winter

A pool renovation is a great way of breathing new life not only into your swimming pool, but also your whole backyard. There are a number of reasons why it might be time to consider renovating your pool, such as to modernise it, make it more energy efficient, or build in new technologies that make maintenance easier and cheaper. We shared some of these ideas in this previous article.

But those aren’t all the reasons for having your pool renovated. For example, you might want to take the opportunity to install improvements that could make it more enjoyable for you to spend time in, such as adding a water feature or something to enhance your outdoor living area.

If your pool is in need of a makeover, you might be wondering when the best time would be to get it done.

Here are our top four reasons why we think you’re better off waiting for winter to come around before scheduling your pool renovation.

You’ll be using it less

First and foremost, winter is the time when you’ll be using your pool the least, so it makes sense to have your renovation booked in for then. That way, not only will you not miss out on swimming time during the warmer months, but you’ll also have something to look forward to in the spring when your new-look pool should be ready for use.

Better chance of getting your contractor of choice

Most swimming pool contractors tend to be busier during the summer months, when they’re not only building new pools, but also carrying out pool maintenance work for customers who already have pools. That means that if you aim to have the work done over winter, your preferred contractor is much more likely to have the time available to do it for you.

It should be less expensive

There are several reasons why a pool renovation in the winter can be cheaper than at other times of the year. Firstly, because many contractors do tend to be less busy in the winter, that increases your chance of getting a better deal for the work you want. Meanwhile, the water needed to fill your pool afterwards is often cheaper in winter, and is less prone to evaporation than during the summer months. Finally, by having your pool renovated in winter, you can save on the cost of winterizing it.

Less noise and dust indoors

Depending on what you’re having done, an inground pool renovation can be a major task and is likely to create quite a bit of noise and dust when being carried out. During the warmer months, that’s going to mean that unless you lock yourself away indoors with all your doors and windows kept shut, you’ll suffer all that noise and dust invading your home. Have your renovation carried out during winter, when you’re more likely to be keeping your doors and windows closed anyway, and that’s going to be far less of a problem.
