Water Safety Day, April 8th, 2000

Gus & Goldie with Jay and LeAnn Novacek
Pulliam Pools Water Safety Day is an event that involved the whole
community. Water Safety
Day provided an opportunity for the rest of the community to learn about
the dangers of drowning in the pool, lake, or bathtub. In 2000, over 400 people learned water safety firsthand at
Safety Day, and another 100,000 were reached through a special Pulliam
Pools Water Safety section included in the Fort Worth Star Telegram.
Radio stations sponsor contests, refreshments are donated by
local businesses and safety-oriented organizations such as Tarrant County
911, American Red Cross, Cook Children’s Hospital, the Army Corps of
Engineers, Emler Swim School, and others host booths at the office to
educate the community about being safe around the water.

Goldie and Friends
Special guests at Water Safety Day 2000 were Gus and Goldie, the official
water safety spokespuppets, and former Dallas Cowboy Jay Novacek and
his wife LeAnn, who signed autographs on Be Wise, Supervise Water Watcher
tags.

Army Corps of Engineers "Little
Toot" was a popular attraction.
The Water Watcher tags were the brainchild of Pulliam Pools, who recognized
the need for having an adult designated to supervise children in the
pool. Anyone wearing the
tag makes the commitment to provide constant supervision for swimmers
and does not leave to answer the phone, get a drink, or otherwise lose
eye-contact with the swimming pool.
Making it someone’s job to watch the pool vastly decreases the
risk of drowning. Pulliam
cares about the safety of the community, and every Pulliam customer
receives two Water Watcher tags and water safety information at start-up.
For more information on the Water Watcher tag program, please
contact Pulliam Pools.

Games for all ages.

festivities.
