It's that time of year again! Our Annual Photo Contest will be kicking off in July, with plenty of fun and prizes for everyone. Here's an advance look at the guidelines: 1. Limit of 4 photos per family, per category. 2. No blurry photos, please. 3. Pools must be complete and filled to be eligible. 4. Q: My pump is running but I don't see any water in my pump basket. Is this a problem? A: When you
look through the clear top of your pump lid, the water should be filled
to the very top. If your water is clear, it may look like there is nothing
in there! Actually, if you see a lot of bubbles at the top of the pump
lid, that indi- cates air in the system, which can cause problems. In
the rare instance that there actually isn't any water flowing (this can
be confirmed by a zero pressure reading on the filter gauge), make sure
the appropriate valves are open and that all skimmer baskets and pump
basket are clean. If there still isn't any water flow, you may have a
clog in your plumbing. Call the service department at (817) 346-4779.
Q: How do I get water out I drain my pool? A: To drain
just a few inches out of the pool, turn your multiport valve to "Waste"
and turn your pump on for a few minutes. Beware! The level can go down
faster than you think and run your pump dry if you are not watching the
pool. To drain the entire pool, first wait until dry weather (wet ground
or rain can cause the pool to "pop" out of the ground). Then
use a submersible pump to pump the water out of the pool from the bottom.
This eliminates the risk of sucking air into your system and burning up
the pump motor. Q: Why won't my light come on? I just replaced the bulb. A: Very often,
the GFI (Ground Fault Interrupter) just needs to be reset. This is usually
located by your equipment or breaker box. Just press the reset button,
then try your light again. Q: How often should
I test my pool water? A: During swimming
season, test your water a minimum of once a week. This will ensure that
you catch any imbalances caused by heavy bather load before they have
a chance to make trouble. Make sure you perform at least the chlo- rine
level, pH, and Alkalinity tests each time. In the winter, testing your
water every 2-3 weeks is usually sufficient to maintain acceptable levels.
Q: How often does
my filter need to be cleaned? Is this different than backwashing? A: Yes. Cleaning
your filter involves taking the grids out of the tank, pulling Q: Is it OK to use gas chlorine in my pool? A: Gas chlorine
can only be dispensed by a licensed service company. While this pure form
of chlorine is very effective, it should be used with caution. Gas chlorine,
when added to water, forms a strong acidic solution that is heavier than
water. If this is not neutralized with soda ash, it can stay at the bottom
of the pool, causing premature erosion of the pool surface. Remember! Test
your heater well in advance of any scheduled pool party. If you have any
problems, please call our Service Department at 817346-4778.
